Melbourne: As many as four Indians drowned off an unpatrolled beach at Victoria’s Phillip Island on Wednesday. The victims included a man and two women in their 20s. Another woman, who died due to drowning, was in her 40s and belonged to an extended family, Australia media reported.

“Heart breaking tragedy in Australia: 4 Indians lost their lives in a drowning incident at Phillip Island, Victoria. Deepest condolences to the families of the victims. @cgimelbourne team is in touch with friends of the deceased for all necessary assistance,” said the embassy.

Indians Drowned at Philip Beach: The Attempt

The deceased were at the Forrest Caves beach. The first attempt to save the deceased persons was made around 3:30 pm by off-duty lifeguards. As per reports by the Australia media, out of four, three of them had died at the scene while the fourth victim who was in her 20s – was airlifted to a hospital in Melbourne but later died during the treatment, reported news.com.au.

As per Victoria cop Karen Nyholm, the 43-year-old victim was on holiday while the other three lived near Melbourne.
Notably, Phillip Island famous for its sea and Forrest Caves. It is a popular tourist beach which is very popular among locals for its dangerous swimming spots with no lifeguards.

Not The First Incident

In 2018, two Indians had drowned in Moonee beach while another went missing. They were holidaying in Australia and hailed from Telangana.
