New Delhi: Former Pakistan Prime Minister and cricketer Imran Khan has received another big blow from Pakistan Court. After being given a ten year prison sentence in the Cipher Case, the former Pak PM has now been sentenced to 14 years in prison in the Toshakhana Case. Where in the Cipher Case, he was given a prison sentence with his aid Shah Mehmood Qureshi, in the Toshakhana case, as reported by Pakistan local media, he is given a prison sentence along with his wife Bushra Bibi. Imran Khan And Wife Get 14 Years Jail, Fine Imposed
As mentioned earlier, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, and his wife Bushra Bibi were on Wednesday sentenced to 14 years with rigorous punishment in the Toshakhana case, Pakistan local media reported. Dawn reported that an Islamabad accountability court the couple and barred both of them from holding any public office for 10 years, and were slapped with a fine of Rs787 million.
What Is The Toshakhana Case?
There were allegations on Imran Khan that he had failed to deposit a huge amount of 19 million pounds to the British Government; he had allowed a property tycoon to use it to adjust partially, the above-mentioned amount against the Rs 460 billion fine which was imposed by the Supreme Court. These allegations came to light after their misuse of the government’s treasure house, i.e. Toshakhana where they sold the gifts they received at reduced rates during their tenure, at higher prices.
Imran Khan, His Aid’s Prison Sentence In Cipher Case
A Pakistan court sentenced former prime minister Imran Khan and former Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to jail for 10 years each in a case involving leaking of state secrets, local media reported on Tuesday. The special court had begun the cipher trial afresh last month at the Adiala district jail after Imran and Qureshi were indicted for a second time in the case on December 13, Dawn News reported.
A special court established under the Official Secrets Act sentenced Pakistan Tehreeke-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Khan and former Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi handed out the 10-year jail sentence in the cypher case, Dawn reported. The verdict was announced by special court Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain during the hearing held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The former premier and Qureshi, who is also behind bars, were first indicted in the case in October. Both had pleaded not guilty. The IHC had termed the government’s notification for a jail trial “erroneous” and scrapped the entire proceedings.
What Is The Cipher Case?
The cipher case concerns a diplomatic cable, which reportedly went missing from Khan’s possession. Khan had repeatedly said before and after the no-confidence motion against him last year that the cipher pointed to a conspiracy to remove him from the prime minister’s office. Khan has been in jail due to cipher case since the Islamabad High Court on August 29 granted him bail in the Toshakhana case in which he was arrested on August 5 from Lahore. More than 150 cases have been registered against Khan since ouster from power in April last year.
