New Delhi: Dexter Scott King, the youngest son of the flagbearer of the Civil Rights Movement in America in the fifties and the Nobel Peace Prize Winner Martin Luther King Jr has passed away at the age of 62. Dexter Scott King’s wife, Leah Weber King has released an official statement informing the passing of her husband. Martin Luther King Jr’s other son and Dexter King’s elder brother Martin Luther King III has also given a statement expressing his sadness over his brother’s death.

Dexter Scott King Dies At 62 Due To Prostate Cancer

As mentioned earlier, the youngest son of Martin Luther King Jr and Coretta Scott King, Dexter Scott King has passed away at the age of 62. Dexter King had married his wife, Leah Weber King in 2013 and she has now released a statement informing that her husband died after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer. In her statement from the King Center, Leah Weber King said, “He transitioned peacefully in his sleep at home with me in Malibu. He gave it everything and battled this terrible disease until the end. As with all the challenges in his life, he faced this hurdle with bravery nd might’.

Martin Luther King III Expresses Grief Over Brother’s Death

Apart from Dexter Scott King’s wife, the civil rights activist’s elder brother, Martin Luther King III has also expressed his grief and has said in his statement, “I am deeply saddened to share that my brother, Dexter Scott King, has passed away. The sudden shock is devastating. It is hard to have the right words at a moment like this. Please keep the entire King family in your prayers, and in particular Dexter’s wife, Leah Weber.”

Who Was Dexter Scott King?

Just like his father, Dexter Scott King was also a civil rights activist; born on January 30, 1961, Dexter was just seven years old when his father, Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated. After his formal education, in 1989, Dexter’s mother named him her successor as the President of the King Center for Non-Violent Social Change. Dexter Scott King was also an attorney and author who wrote the book ‘Growing Up King: An Intimate Memoir’.
