UP Shocker: The accused indulged in a dispute with the bus conductor over ticket fare following which he attacked him with a cleaver and ran away.

Prayagraj: A shocking incident has emerged from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, where a 20-year-old man attacked a bus conductor with a cleaver on Friday after a dispute over the ticket fare. The accused recorded a video confessing to his crime, alleging that he attacked the conductor for ‘insulting Prophet Muhammad.’ He attempted to escape from the police but was caught in an encounter after being shot in the leg. As per Prayagraj Police, Lareb Hashmi attacked the bus conductor on Friday morning after being indulged in a dispute with the bus conductor, Harikesh Vishwakarma (24), over ticket price.

After the verbal spat, Hashmi, who is a first-year engineering student, mercilessly attacked Vishwakarma with a cleaver. The bus conductor sustained grievous injuries to his neck and other body parts.

After attacking the conductor, Hashmi jumped out of the bus and entered the college campus to hide.

Inside the college, he allegedly recorded a video of him and uploaded it on social media. In the purported clip, the accused can be seen confessing to the crime and accusing the victim of indulging in blasphemy and “insulting Prophet Muhammad”.

He can also be seen brandishing the cleaver with which he hacked the conductor. He also took the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath in the video.

Another video that was circulated on the internet shows Hashmi running outside with the cleaver in hand.

According to the driver of the bus, Mangla Yadav, “Suddenly, there was an attack inside the bus. I heard a sound and then stopped the bus.” He stated that they rushed Vishwakarma to a hospital for medical treatment.

Cops nabbed Hashmi from inside the college where he was hiding. Later in the day, when a police team took him to recover the weapon from which he attacked the bus conductor, he allegedly fired at them and tried to escape.

In the police’s retaliatory fire, Hashmi sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was arrested. Currently, he is undergoing treatment for the bullet injury.

Giving details, Abhinav Tyagi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Prayagraj’s Yamunanagar area, said, “Following the incident, the accused was arrested by the police, and a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered. Further investigation is underway.”

DCP Tyagi added that Hashmi lives in Prayagraj’s Hajiganj area and is a first-year student in United Engineering College.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.

His father, Mohammed Yunus, runs a poultry farm in the city.
