Brasilia: A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.2 on the Richter Scale struck the Southwest Indian Ridge on Sunday, the National Center for Seismology said. As per the NCS, the powerful quake hit the region at around 3.39 (local time), with a depth of 10 kilometres. “Earthquake of Magnitude:6.2, Occurred on 21-01-2024, 03:39:41 IST, Lat: -39.64 & Long: 46.16, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Southwest Indian Ridge,” NCS posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Meanwhile, another strong quake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter Scale hit Western Brazil. The quake was at a depth of 614 kilometres with a latitude -7.23 and Longitude 71.54.

More details about both earthquakes are awaited.

On Saturday night, an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 hit the Mariana Islands. As per the NCS, the tremors were felt at 21:18:23 Indian Standard Time (IST). The quake was at a depth of 10 km.
